WHAT MAKES US DISTINCT

What makes Bridwell Heights Presbyterian Church different from other churches? Of course, being Presbyterian, we hold to a form of church government where the Church is ruled by a number of elders who are elected by the congregation. The word "Presbyterian" comes from the Greek word "presbyter" which means "elder." These elders are under Jesus Christ, and are therefore obligated to rule only under the authority of the Bible.

Being part of the P.C.A. (Presbyterian Church in America), we, like our sister churches, believe that the Bible is the infallible, inerrant, and all-sufficient word of God. Some believe that the Bible contains errors, but we believe it is without error. Also, we are different from most other churches because we are "reformed". This refers to the doctrines coming out of the Reformation period (1500's) which sought to reform the Roman Catholic Church by returning to the authority of the Bible. These doctrines were summarized by a group of ministers in England in 1648 in a document called the Westminster Confession of Faith. All of our officers take a vow that they believe the Westminster Confession summarizes faithfully the teachings of the Bible.

Another unique thing about Bridwell Heights is that we teach the doctrines of the Reformation without reservation to the whole congregation. Our goal is to make certain our people, and especially our children, are exposed to the teachings of the Bible as summarized in the Westminster Confession of Faith.

Finally, we promote a Christian "world and life view." This means we believe that the Bible speaks to every area of life, including the family, civil government, business, science, literature, education, etc.. Although we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, the law of God is a standard of righteousness for everything. We seek to apply that law to every area of life. There are many other things that make us unique, but these are a few of the things which set us apart from most other churches.
